Letter Limit Boggle – Thursday Weekly Challenge
Letter Limit Thursday bans one specific letter each week — and these aren't obscure letters. The 8-week rotation cycles through E, A, T, S, R, I, N, and O — some of the most common letters in the English language. Any word containing the banned letter is rejected outright, forcing you to rewrite your mental dictionary in real time.
This is arguably the hardest weekly challenge. When E is banned, suddenly half your vocabulary disappears. Words you'd normally spot instantly become invisible, and you need to dig deep for alternatives. The standard 4×4 grid and 3-minute timer keep the board familiar — but your brain will feel anything but.
How to Play Letter Limit Boggle
- One letter is banned each week — rotating through E, A, T, S, R, I, N, O.
- Any word containing the banned letter is rejected — even if it's a valid English word.
- Standard 4×4 Boggle dice — the banned letter still appears on the board, you just can't use it.
- 3-minute timer — standard duration, but finding words takes longer without common letters.
- The banned letter is always present on the board — it's unavoidable, so plan your paths to skip it.
Tips for the Banned Letter Challenge
- Check the banned letter before starting — know which letter to avoid before you even look at the board.
- Mentally block the banned letter — treat cells containing the banned letter as obstacles, not opportunities.
- Rethink common words — without E, "THERE" becomes impossible but "THAT" still works. Adapt your word list.
- Practice vowel substitution — when one vowel is banned, lean harder on the others. When E is out, use A, I, O more aggressively.
- Keep a running mental list — certain words only become obvious once a letter is missing. Jot them down mentally as you discover new patterns.
