What Is 3×3 Boggle?

3×3 Boggle is a compact version of the classic word game: instead of 16 dice you play with 9 tiles arranged in a 3×3 grid. It uses the same rules and scoring as standard Boggle — words must be at least 3 letters, formed by connecting letters that touch horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, and each tile can only be used once per word.

Because the board is smaller, it is quicker to scan and easier to read — a great choice for beginners, younger players, or a fast casual round.

How to Play 3×3 Boggle

  1. Choose a difficulty and start the game — a fresh 3×3 board appears instantly.
  2. Find words using adjacent letters — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
  3. Each tile can only be used once within a word.
  4. Words must be at least 3 letters long.
  5. Submit as many valid words as you can before the timer runs out.

Scoring is the classic Boggle system: 3–4 letters = 1 point, 5 = 2, 6 = 3, 7 = 5, and 8+ = 11 points. See our complete Boggle scoring guide.
